Engagement sessions are the ideal way to get to know your photographer, see how well you will work together, and to get some really great photos of you and your future spouse. Engagements are the perfect way to practice being in front of the camera before your wedding day, and to get all of the jitters and awkward moments out of the way. One of the biggest questions I get from couples is, “Where is a good place to take engagements?”. While you can ask your photographer for some insight on where they suggest (I’m full of great ideas!), consider the following to help you choose a location that has significance and meaning to you and your significant other.

I have gathered a list of some of my favorite spots between Shreveport and Delhi ! Most are in the Monroe/ Ruston areas, but I love to travel so don’t hesitate to choose a destination engagement location.

SQUIRE CREEK

Squire Creek is a golf course located in Ruston, LA. It is gorgeous anytime of year for a quick and simple Engagement Session, but especially in spring time when the flowers are in bloom! The best part is this location is completely FREE. I love having couples dance through the flowers and fall inlove all over.

LINCOLN PARISH PARK

A beautiful option also located in Ruston, LA. So many different back drops from the Lake, to the pier, a beach area, and walkways surrounded by Louisiana Pines. This spot is an awesome location in every season, but my favorite time of year to shoot here is in spring, summer and early fall. This location won’t break the bank either. It’s only $3 per person to enter.

DOWNTOWN RUSTON

Downtown Ruston gives you all the feels of a small town. I love when couples choose to go here for portraits. There is also so many date spots around for after pictures. You can make engagements a whole experience! And the best part about this location is it’s free.

LOUISIANA TECH’S CAMPUS

Tech offers the perfect backdrops for couples that went to Louisiana Tech or just love the beautiful scenery. I LOVE shooting here anytime of year. The buildings are beautiful, but the trees and fountain are my favorite!This location is also a free option!

BLACK BAYOU

Black Bayou is a park located in North Monroe. It has SO many different back drop options and is another free location. I love shooting here because of the variety of shooting spots and back drops. There is fields, cypress trees, the bayou, railroad tracks, the cutest front porch, a rustic picket fence, a beautiful rock driveway, and so much more. This is honestly the #1 hot spot that clients choose and is definitely a client favorite.

DOWNTOWN MONROE + WEST MONROE

Downtown Monroe offers the perfect date night vibes. If you are a couple that loves date night, outdoors, coffee shops. and strolls around the city.. this spot is for you. I love the hometown feel it gives to photos, especially in the winter time. Monroe offers more brick work, art work, and rustic feel. West Monroe offers more of a homey feel. You can always pick both since they are just a bridge ride away from each other.

MANSION AT REDHILL

My absolute favorite spot in North Louisiana. For only $75 this could be your ultimate back drop for engagements. Perfect for lifestyle pictures, indoor options for those HOT Louisiana days, and outdoor spots that are gorgeous. Their spiral staircase is to die for and their barn and outdoor gazebo provide the perfect back drop for those romantic country style images. I think this is perfect for those home body couples that would rather sip coffee and have an indoor movie night than go out. Also, this mansion gives off major rich lifestyle vibes for those boujee girls. ( Totally my cup of tea)

I also want to shout out some other awesome spots around North Louisiana. Obviously these arent the only places, but these are some popular options that will give you those dreamy photos that you have been dying for since you met your love.

LAKE BISTINEAU STATE PARK

DOYLINE, LA

Louisiana is known for it’s incredibly beautiful swamp lands, cypress knees, and forrest. This place is a sportsman paradise and offers a romantic backdrop to any engagement session. This location is for the outdoor and adventurous couple. Grab a cute canoe, wear a long dress, and heck even throw in a bouquet, and lets create some breathtaking photos of you and your fiancé.

LACHUTE WEDDING PLANTATION

SHREVEPORT, LA

If you are looking for a place that screams southern elegance and charm this is your place. This all white venue is a dream come true on the inside and out. Its one of the prettiest plantation style homes in North Louisiana and is definitely filled with southern vibes. This location cost $150 to shoot at and is only open on Wednesday’s for portraits, but goodness is it worth it.

DOWNTOWN BOSSIER- LOUISIANA BOARDWALK

BOSSIER,LA

This location is another FREEBIE. It has that downtown city vibe, and offers tons of color pop in your photos. I love this location for couples who like to spend their time with a night around the town. With the River and bridge as a beautiful backdrop, you can get engagement pictures that will never go out of style.

BIEDENHARN MUSEUM & GARDENS

MONROE,LA

his lush green garden is located near downtown Monroe. The garden is designed with a number of thematic settings including the Four Seasons Garden, Oriental Garden, and Musical Grotto. The highlight is the stunning Wagnerian Fountain located on the north end of the Ballet Lawn. I always recommend visiting here first and then finishing up the session in downtown West Monroe at Antique Alley for a variety of looks. This hidden garden is only $50 to shoot at, but you have to reserve it in advance.
